Chris Elrod recently has written some posts lately that I consider to be contrary to the message of the Gospel and its ability to regenerate lives.
The story of God tells us that there are those who are not believers and are not to be judged and condemned by men, but rather convicted through grace by the Holy Spirit through the love they are desperate for that consequently is only rooted in the love and value that was declared loudly from the cross and is found present in the life of Gospel-transformed followers through their mystical, supernatural ability to love loudly.
As for your definition of truth and missional context, they are hollow and trite. Your approach to qualify your statement of truth is misleading
Unfortunately, in context of your usage of 1 John 3:13, there was a failure to continue reading 14-24 and then 1 John 4:6-8... I'll help with posting it directly here...
1 John 3:14-24 "14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. 15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life in him. 16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 20whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us."
When you get done, just swim in 1 John 4... This whole passage deconstructs your theory of Love vs. Truth. Truth is non-existent without the discovery of love. Love is not something which vanishes because of emotion, but only grows from the realization that the love declared for humanity is what continuously gives birth to absolute-truth. Moreover, the truth that underlines Jesus' statement of the Way, Truth and the Life is manifest through God's action of loving us first and enough to have himself murdered for our case, not after we "believe" in who Jesus said he was.
A "history book" Jesus is not the story God intended to be considered the Good News, nor does it say that the Holy Spirit is real, I really mean real, as real as I am typing this refutation and at the end of the day the truth you proclaim is not the gospel, but a reaction to the Gospel. Remember, God is love and gives birth to truth as he restores humanity through his love clothed in grace...
