Today is Wednesday.
Earlier this morning I helped my buddy Dewitt Harrison on and off a plane in Charlotte because the airline said that he couldn't fly if he was not assisted in flight and US Airways couldn't be liable for him in case of emergencies.
I loved getting to know this aged soul. He's seen and heard great things throughout history. I hope he gets well and can move back in to his apartment at 88th and CPW in Manhattan.
Now, I got lunch with Dr. Jerry Sutton of Two Rivers Baptist in Nashville at the Aquarium and told him our vision of patience and longevity in NYC. I hope he reads this and his church is compelled to give to the project financially. Jerry, you know how to reach me. Dr. Sutton was with me when I accepted Christ back in 1996. you can read the blogpost about that HERE.
We went back to the church and I was introduced to some of the staff that I was at one time contemporaries with. What is it about those that work in denominations, that feel the need to stay in them, when they constantly make quips and comments about how its so trite or needs to change..( more on that thought in a later post).
I finished the night early and crashed at 7.
More tomorrow.
This morning I got to the NYC airport & overheard a conversation
between the man (Dewitt Harrison) next to me, his family and the
airport administration. They were saying because he was unable to care
for himself he couldn't fly to our layover in Charlotte for his
operations and care.
I couldnt do anything but hear a voice inside saying to over to help
him onto the plane, make sure he is cared for in case of emergency and
make sure he gets off to his peeps.
They rearranged our seating to be together. He couldnt fit into coach
seating because he can't bend his legs, nor his waist. So we are
pimping First Class all the way to Charolette and sipping on drinks in
style. D-dog gives mad props to US Airways for making his flight and
future possible.
This is no joke! US Airways has earned my loyality for how they
treated Dewitt this morning. It was the most respectf & honoring
service I've seen in a long time. They are remarkable!!!
Mandy I miss you terribly already. I'll be home in 10 days.
I saw this at Urban Outfitters and had to have it. I'm giving it away
to my pal, Jason Dukes for letting me crash at his place in Orlando.
Thx Jason. Hope you Jesus grows really big!!!
Journal 6 - Matthew 6
Scripture - "Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Observation - This is how we shall pray. The fact that Jesus took time to teach people how to pray means we should do the same through modeling and intentionally leading others verbally to pray through the same principles here.
Application - I need to be more intentional about calling people to the ways of Jesus. This is the Good News that sets people free. Jesus spends his energy teaching people how to talk to his dad. I should be encouraging others to pray more, to cry out more, to thank God more for what is happening in their lives.
Prayer - Lord, this is hard for me to understand. I want to be like you, I wrestle with security of knowing your value for me and have called me to lead others. Forgive me and teach me humility and balance. May your will be done through my life. Continue to bury my fleshly desires and lead me to walk in your Spirit.
Journal 5 - Matthew 5
Scripture - Jesus said v2: "And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:"
Observation - I have read the sermon on the mount several times and the beatitudes, but never noticed his actions before the teaching. I think we look for the words to compel our actions, but we miss the actual actions of Jesus himself. I have. I love that it says he opens his mouth to speak. unlike some that think only actions speak.
Application - I need to be balanced in how I talk to others about Jesus. It takes not only words, but actions and it takes not only actions, but words to love others to Christ.
Prayer - Lord, I want to model the teachings that you lament on in Matthew 5. I desire to live them out and ask for your help to do these things. I'm glad that this time through the Gospels that I am paying attention to your movements, not just the words on the page. Jesus, teach me to be balanced as you are in presenting YOU as the Good News to everyone. I love you.

The Church needs to rethink how it is engaging culture. First it needs
to understand what culture is, how it works.
If we focus ourselves to redeeming The City, we will be fulfilling the
mandate of redeeming all cultures and not just individuals!
We are under way. A great crowd! Jon Tyson is about to speak. There
are great questions in the air can't wait to see what this convening
of minds produces!
